What is dot biz?
As tech has become the driving force in the economy, something weird has happened: it’s surprisingly hard to find news explaining it.
The coverage there is, is polarized across two axes: it’s incredibly polarized for or against the technology, and it’s either incredibly granular in coverage area or extremely far-thinking and broad. The people in the middle — people who want to understand the business decisions shifting the entire economy — are left underserved.
Another big problem? There is great info and reporting out there — but a lot of it is locked behind a paywall and caters to a paywall audience, not a general audience interested in the tech business. On the other side, the free info out there is often owned by many of the companies being covered or subsidized by them without disclosures.
Dot biz is trying to fill that gap in the market.
One other big blinking warning sign: AI writing, and overproduction of “content,” has become a huge problem for readers. AI analysis may well transcend human analysis in the future, but we aren’t there yet, so dot biz is written by people. A publication like dot biz is going to use AI for lots of stuff — it’s extremely valuable for research, data analysis, certain production tasks, etc (hopefully that em dash didn’t set off your alarm bells). We value your time more than our time.
